Verification of basic PE, TE, DE and YE degrees for ASEP

Basic Education Degrees

How basic education degrees are documented in ASEP competitions, according to FEK B' 3614/2022 of the Standard Provisions.

Summary

Chapter 1 defines how PE, TE, DE and YE degrees must be documented. Key elements are the final grade, date of award and grading scale.

  • PE/TE degrees must show a final grade with two decimal points and a clear date of award.
  • DE and YE degrees must show the date and, where required, the final grade and scale.
  • Foreign degrees usually require translation and recognition.

Verification of Basic Education Degrees for PE – TE – DE – YE

Chapter 1 of the Standard ASEP Provisions specifies how basic education degrees are documented for University (PE), Technological (TE), Upper Secondary (DE) and Compulsory Education (YE) categories.

1. PE degrees (University level)

1.1 What counts as a PE degree

PE degrees include Bachelor’s and integrated diplomas awarded by Greek Universities, as well as equivalent foreign degrees which have been recognised or are under formal recognition.

1.2 What the candidate must submit

  • A copy of the university degree.
  • Clear reference to institution, faculty/department and specialisation (where applicable).
  • The date of award of the degree.
  • The final grade and grading scale (e.g. 0–10).
  • The final grade expressed with two decimal points (e.g. 7.35, 8.10, 6.50).

If the grade, date of award or scale do not appear clearly, an official certificate from the institution is required. If the grading system is different or verbal, the institution must provide an official conversion to a 0–10 scale with two decimal points.

2. TE degrees (Technological education)

2.1 What counts as a TE degree

TE degrees include qualifications awarded by former Technological Educational Institutes (TEI) and departments of the Technological Sector of Universities, as well as recognised equivalent foreign technological degrees.

2.2 What the candidate must submit

  • A copy of the technological education degree.
  • Reference to institution, department and, where applicable, specialisation.
  • The date of award of the degree.
  • The final grade with two decimal points.
  • The grading scale or an official conversion of it.

If the grade is expressed verbally (e.g. “Pass”, “Good”), an official conversion to a numeric grade and a 0–10 scale is required.

3. DE degrees (Upper Secondary Education)

3.1 What counts as a DE degree

DE degrees include General Lyceum diplomas, Vocational Lyceum diplomas accepted as DE, and equivalent upper secondary qualifications.

3.2 What the candidate must submit

  • A copy of the Lyceum diploma or equivalent document.
  • The date of award.
  • The final grade where it is used for scoring.
  • The grading scale, where required.

If the grade is not shown with two decimal points or the scale is unclear, the school must issue a certificate stating the exact grade and scale. For DE degrees obtained abroad, an official translation and, where applicable, an apostille are required.

4. YE degrees (Compulsory Education)

4.1 What counts as a YE degree

YE degrees certify completion of compulsory education, such as a Lower Secondary School (Gymnasium) diploma, a certificate of three years of attendance, or equivalent qualifications.

4.2 What the candidate must submit

  • A copy of the Lower Secondary School diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • The name of the issuing school.
  • The date of issue or award.

For YE degrees obtained abroad, an official translation and, depending on the country, an apostille or other legalisation are required. The qualification must be equivalent to Greek compulsory education.
